Traveltech collective Pilots for Scottish Visitor Attractions

Traveltech for Scotland will collaborate with ASVA to set up a shared services model for technology adoption across a network of attractions

Traveltech for Scotland is working on co-creating new collective technology projects and platforms where ‘collectives’ of tourism businesses come together to work with local travel technology companies and experts to design and build shared technology resources.

In this project, funded by the Tourism Leadership and Recovery Fund, we shall work with groups of visitor attractions in different parts of Scotland, in collaboration with ASVA (Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions).

This Collective Technology project will drive the recovery of two groups of Scotland’s visitor attractions through the direct implementation of new digital technologies within their businesses. We will do this by deploying a dedicated, shared technical human resource to directly undertake practical digital work for all of its members.

Attractions need a dedicated delivery resource to implement their technology

• If attractions worked together, they could share this dedicated resource.

• This would lead to a collective productivity boost, improved customer acquisition, better customer experience and more efficient operations.

• The pandemic has led to a greater urgency for attractions to use digital technologies, including:

o Online booking and ticketing to manage visitor numbers.

o Digital payments for an increasingly contactless society.

o Targeted digital marketing for a more local and wider domestic customer.

o Build and grow revenue streams through e-commerce.

Collaboration is essential:

• The pandemic has shown that the fortunes of tourism businesses are interconnected.

• Attractions need to collaborate with technology tools to allow interconnected tourism businesses to provide a simple, joined up experience within a destination.
